Frequently Asked Questions
What is SFTFS doing in response to COVID-19?
NEW: Visit our COVID-19 vaccine info portal for up-to-date information and resources about the vaccine.
Our number one priority is the health and safety of the seniors we help (and our volunteers). While COVID-19 has made it impossible for us to host large group sessions face-to-face, that hasn't stopped us from providing free, high-quality tech support. SFTFS is committed to alternative forms of education and support: we provide one-on-one support over the phone and utilize remote support technology to help with computers. In addition, we produce videos on our YouTube channel that walk through tips, tricks, and tutorials for common devices and services step-by-step. Learn more about the services we currently offer here.
Is SFTFS support really free?
It's really free! We think technical literacy, online safety and security, communication, and information is too valuable to lock behind a paywall. Too often, seniors get left behind when it comes to technology and we want to bridge the gap between young and old people to make technology accessible and easy to use for all seniors. That's why we started SFTFS, and why we don't charge a dime.
Is SFTFS a nonprofit?
Yes. South Florida Tech For Seniors is proud to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, meaning all donations are exempt from federal income tax under IRC Section 501(c)(3). EIN is available upon request.
Can I make a donation to SFTFS?
Absolutely! If you want to support SFTFS and allow us to continue offering completely free technical support, we'd love if you would make a donation. Any amount helps, and your donations are deductible under 501(c)(3).
Who started SFTFS?
South Florida Tech For Seniors was started by Sam Friedman, a high school student who loves technology and wants to make sure seniors do too.
Who works for SFTFS?
SFTFS works with an ever-expanding list of local student volunteers. We are always looking to get more students involved to expand the number of seniors we can help. Read on to learn about volunteering with our organization.
Can I volunteer with SFTFS?
Of course! We are always looking for students who are willing to volunteer their time to help teach seniors and ensure SFTFS runs smoothly. To earn community service hours and help our nonprofit, visit our volunteer opportunities page for more info.
